Arvada Center's 'The Great Comet' a celebration of home-grown high school talent
The Bobby G Awards, presented by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts since 2014, honor exceptional success in Colorado high school theater. This program has demonstrated the importance of arts education in Colorado high schools over time. Because our schools are not only turning out a large number of extraordinarily gifted students, but they are also obviously receiving excellent instruction. One example is the lively, electropop musical "Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812," which is currently being presented by the Arvada Center. It is based loosely on Leo Tolstoy's 1869 epic "War and Peace," with a central theme of a young woman whose independent spirit sends her hurtling toward a social comet.
Two female finalists for the Bobby G's annual Outstanding Actress award have previously appeared in the cast of fifteen, including Elleon Dobias, who won in 2017 for her performance as Catherine in Valor Christian High School's production of "Pippin," and Bella Hathorne, who was nominated in 2019 for her role as Jo in Littleton High School's production of "Little Women."
